History of Sidho Kanho Murmu

The history of Sidho Kanho Murmu is an important chapter in the tribal freedom struggle of Jharkhand. Sidho and Kanho Murmu were brave warriors of the Santhal community, who led the Santhal Rebellion (1855-1856) against British rule.

This rebellion stood against the injustice, atrocities of the British rulers, and the seizure of tribal land by the landlords. Sidho and Kanho Murmu, along with their brothers Chand and Bhairav, organized thousands of Santhal tribals and fought against the British rule and landlords during the Santhal Rebellion (1855-1856).

On 30 June 1855, thousands of Santhals in Bhognadih village declared rebellion against the British rule, which is known as “Santhal Hul”.
