Baba Basukinath Dham is located in the Dumka district of Jharkhand. It is situated on the Deoghar-Dumka state highway and is about 25 km north-west of Dumka.
It is a pilgrimage place for Hindus. Basukinath Temple is the main attraction here. Jasidih Junction Railway Station and Jamtara Railway Station are the nearest railway stations.

According to local legend, the name of Dumka originatd from Daruk Van (Daruk Forest).
It is said that in ancient days, one Daruk ued to rule the region and the forest had had been named after him.
The legend further says that a man named Basu Dug the earth in search of roots. Roots used to be the food for the people of this region then.
It so happend that his spade got stuck in the earth. When he looked into, he realized that his spade had struck a Shiva Linga, and he saw milk flowing out in large quantity from the Shiva Linga.
Basu then heard a prophecy from the sky. It said: “This is my palce of dwelling. So wordship me here.”
Basu started worshipping and the place came to be known after Basu. The worship continues even till this day.
The name of the place has now become Basukinath Dham. The place now has a huge temple of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. This is a unique convergence of Shakti and Bhakti.
It is the flag post of Santhal pargana. One can see the temple from far and start feeling pious for Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati.
There is Shiv Ganga Sarovar where the worshippers bathe before proceeding for worship. Seeking his blessings adn praying to alleviate their pains.
Apart from this holy month of Sawan, worshippers swarm Basukinath Dham nearly every day round the year. But the beauty of the worship can be particularly noticed during Sawan.
It is in this month that faith gets true expression, famously known as Shravani Mela.The entire region echoes with Har Har Mahadev and Bol Bam.
The faithful come traveling miles on bare foot with hly water to offer to the Shiva Linga here in Basukinath.
After taking bath in the Shiv Ganga early in the morning, dressed in Kesaria coours, they proceed to worship their revered deity Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. it is a unique scene that fills the eyes with joy.

Dumka District administration ensures that there is cleanliness all around and that the faithful are able to maintain their jouful spiritual sojourn.
The administration deploys special team of doctors to ensure that any person facing health problem is well attended to, with proper medication and other healthcare facilities.
Elaborate security arrangement also is pt up by the district administration. Rest and guest houses are arranged for the kawarias. VIP kawarias too are attended to. keeping in mind the huge gathering of the faithfulduring theholy month of Sawan, tent city has been set up to offer rest house facility for the faithful.

A Mayurakshi Kala Manch has been set up by State Tourism Department at the place wherethe kawars unwind thier tiredness with music and religious hymns in praise of Lord Shiva.

Jalaparn countes have ben set up for the faithful in order to make puja smooth. facility for live telecast also has been put in place. The Shiva Linga at Baba Baidyanath Dham is one 12 Jyotirlingas and it is known as Nagesh Jyotilinga.
It is here that the kawars reach from different parts of the country to do jalabhishek and pray. it is believed that if one does the jalabhishek at Basukinath and prays for some grace. his prayer is answered.
It is also known as faujdari darbar and anyone who visits Baidynath Dham and does not vist Basukinath, it is believed his religious sojourn remains incomplete. therefor, anyone who offers puja at Baidynath Dham has to visit Basukinath Dham to offer jalabhishek and complete his puja.
There is alos a system of giving dharna at Baba Basukinath Dham. the faihtful gives Dharna in front of Basukinath in order to ensure that their prayers are answered to by the Lord Shiva. a large number of people are supposed to have got freedom from their pains and problems in this way.
