Introduction

The Dhwajdhari Dham is situated on the Dhwajdhari Mountain in the Koderma district of Jharkhand state. Where Lord Shiva is worshipped. Dhwajdhari Dham is situated at a distance of about 12 km from the Koderma district headquarters.

Brahmaputra Kardam Rishi used to do penance here. In Treta Yuga, Kardam Rishi did penance for years on the top of Dhwajdhari Mountain, the place of penance of Brahmaputra Kardam Rishi. This district was named Koderma district after the name of Kardam Rishi.

The district headquarters is located at a distance of about 12 km from Koderma Junction located on the banks of NM in Koderma. Koderma is a picturesque place surrounded by mountains and forests on all sides, adjacent to the borders of Bihar state, where the environment is surrounded by clean rivers and waterfalls.

History and cultural heritage of Dhwajdhari Mountain

When a Nepali named Gulum, working in Gulakoti warehouse during the British era, climbed the Dhwajdhari Mountain to take wood from the forest. Then he saw Sant Banwari Lal meditating on the top of the mountain.

On the request of Gudum, the saint came down the mountain where he met Shri Satyanarayan Daruka Ji, a mica businessman. The first temple was built on the top of the mountain by Shri Satyanarayan Daruka Ji under the guidance of Sant Banwari Das Ji.

He built a hut at the foot of the mountain for the saints to rest. He also provided items for worship and daily needs. Sant Banwari Das Ji passed away on August 8, 1973.

After him, Sant Ram Balak Das Ji took over the responsibility of worship. Sant Ram Balak Das Ji became a foreigner on November 11, 2000. After him, the remaining Shri 108 Sukhdev Das Ji Maharaj is taking over the responsibility.

Construction work of Dhwajdhari Dham

Shri Baidyanath Daruka, Shri Diwan Chand Chhabra and Shri Ram Kishun Ram played a major role in the construction of the stairs to climb the Dhwajdhari mountain. For about 50 years, worship was done by the Daruka family and the necessary materials were provided to Sant Banwari Das and Ram Balak Das Ji.

The cowshed present in the courtyard of the Dhwajdhari temple, five rooms of Vishram Priya, well, Yagyashala and Babaji’s hut were built by the Daruka family. Devotees climb 777 steps to the top of the 500 feet high Dhwajadhari mountain and perform Jalabhishek to Lord Shiva.

Dhwajadhari Dham is known for its mythological faith. Lord Shiva and Bajrangbali are seated on the top of the mountain. The forest department has built a watch tower on the top of the mountain.

The view from the top of this watch tower, which was built for the purpose of watching the forests, looks very attractive and picturesque. Almost all the devotees who climb the mountain definitely climb this watch tower.

In the courtyard of Dhwajadhari Dham, there is a temple of Lord Shankar, Bajrangbali, Nandi Baba, Yagnyashala as well as a grand temple of Radha Krishna. The statue of Bajrangbali sitting facing south is rarely seen. Several rooms have been built for the rest of the devotees and saints visiting here. A cowshed for about 50 cows has also been built right next to it.

People stop here with their friends and family members to enjoy the different types of swings. On the first Monday of the month of Sawan, devotees walk from Jharnakund Dham to perform Jalabhishek on the Shivalinga of Dhwajdhari Dham.

On the last Monday of Sawan, thousands of devotees perform Kanwar Yatra along with Jharnakund Dham. On this day, a feast is organized by the local people.

In which thousands of devotees take prasad. It is the effect of the glory of Bholenath in Dhwajdhari Dham that not only humans but animals and birds, all come running on hearing the name of God.

Maintenance of Dhwajdhari Dham

The Mandi premises are maintained by the committee formed by the residents of Koderma district. From time to time, with the cooperation of the residents of the district, a Bhandara is organized. In which thousands of people take prasad.

Every year, on the occasion of marriage, people from many nearby districts including Koderma get their sons and daughters married here. It is believed that the marriage ceremony held here leads to a happy and long married life.

Even today, in all the marriage ceremonies held in the district headquarters and nearby areas, the invitation card is first given to Lord Bholenath.
