Petro waterfalls is a natural attraction of Koderma District of Jharkhand State. In this place natural tourist attraction and famous for its unique atmosphere.

Introduction

It is said in the entire Jharkhand state that Koderma district is the only district in which many tourist places are seen. Petro waterfall is one of them. This waterfall is located in Satgawan block at a distance of about 70 km from Koderma district.

It is located about 7 km from Basodi Bazaar and about 8 km from Koderma Kothiyar on the route from Koderma to Bihar. It is about 57 km from Jhumri Tilaiya. There are a total of 7 waterfalls and 7 ponds located here. Water keeps flowing from the height of the mountain in every season.

This place is completely situated near the mountain valley. There are also temples of Lord Shiva and Hanuman ji here. This temple is situated near the second waterfall pond. There is no staircase or path to see all the ponds and waterfalls here.

One has to go through a staircase-like path full of rough and dangerous stones. Petro waterfall can be easily reached by a small vehicle. A road has been built till here.

The area around this waterfall remains green throughout the year. Due to which all the tourists coming here get a chance to connect with nature.

Petro waterfall is considered to be the oldest waterfall of Koderma. Local people say that water has been falling here since ancient times. Water flows from the valley of a rocky mountain in all seasons. In ancient times, stairs were built here by cutting stones. Which can be seen here today.

These stone stairs are still intact at some places. Going here alone is not free from danger. Despite this, people take bath in all the waterfalls and pools in Petro waterfall.

Geographical Location

Hundreds of tourists visit the mountain valleys, gorges and park-like place every day. This Petro waterfall is situated in the mountain valley at a distance of 7 km from Basodi bazaar and 8 km from Koderma Kothiyar. It remains green throughout the year.

A total of 7 waterfalls and 7 pools can be seen falling from the mountain. The path to reach all of them is full of dangers. There is a high chance of falling from the slippery and sharp stones of the mountain. High mountains, dense forests and small and big rivers can be seen around here.

If we talk about the height of all the waterfalls together, it can be about 400 feet. If we talk about each of those waterfalls, the height of one waterfall can be about 80 to 90 feet. Bathing in the waterfall here is also a kind of danger. Because if a stone falls from a height, someone can get hurt.

The depth of each pond is not much. The depth of the pond is about 7 to 8 feet. There is no danger of drowning in it. The roots of the trees are seen swinging till the waterfall pond. People swing in it and jump into the water and enjoy the waterfall.

History and mythology of Petro waterfall

It is said about Petro waterfall that in the olden times, due to its beauty, kings and feudal lords used to come here to enjoy peace of mind and beautiful environment. This place was known as a religious place for the local villagers and local tribes.

This is the reason why the statues of Lord Shiva and Hanuman ji are seen here. A story related to this waterfall is also heard. It is said that in the olden times, there was an ashram of an ascetic sage in Petro waterfall. The sage did penance here for years.

Pleased with his penance, Lord Shiv Ji blessed this place with a holy water source. Later this place came to be known as Petro Waterfall. In earlier times, many diseases of those who used to bathe here were cured.

Later, due to people making this holy place dirty, the belief of this place ended. For the same reason, the Shivling of Lord Shiv Ji was established here. There used to be a lot of monkeys here in earlier times. Even today, fewer monkeys are seen.

The security forest officials here keep taking care of the area around this place. Cutting of trees has been banned here. Local people are allowed to carry only dry wood as fuel.

If you are going with the intention of bathing, then definitely take all the stuff with you. The best time to visit there is in the morning, so that you can return before evening. There is no means of accommodation available near the waterfall.

There is no place to stay near Petro waterfall. For staying, you can find many small and big hotels in the local market or in Koderma district town or Jhuri Tilaiya town. Where you can stay by renting a room. There is no facility of camping, trekking, swimming in the waterfall, hiking, boating etc. near the waterfall.

You can go to Petro waterfall with your family for bathing or picnicking. Here you get the best facility for picnicking. There are no entertainment options for children here. There is a place for parking. Where you can park car, bike, tempo, rickshaw, bicycle etc. No parking fee is charged.

Safety and precautions

Talking about safety, there is no safety facility in Petro waterfall. Come here and have fun, take care of yourself. Do not jump around too much near the waterfall, otherwise there is a risk of getting hurt by the stones. There is no guide service available here.

There is no protection from wild animals either. So people are always in danger here. Only safety instructions have been given at various places in the waterfall, by following which you can keep yourself safe.
