Introduction

The hot water pond located at a distance of about 72 km from Hazaribagh district, is known as Suraj Kund. This place is about 31 km from Hazaribagh railway station. There are a total of 5 ponds here. From which hot water comes out.

This Suraj Kund falls in Barkatha block of Hazaribagh. The water of the pond here is many times more than the normal temperature. Local people and priests say that the water of two ponds here remains about 88.5 Celsius and 169-190 degrees Fahrenheit.

Whatever the season, there is no change in the temperature of this pond. The water does not become cold in any way. Exactly at a distance of about 5 feet near those two ponds, there are 3 ponds of cold and normal temperature water.

Whose names are Surya Kund, Laxman Kund, Brahma Kund, Ram Kund and Sita Kund. Apart from this, many temples can be seen in the pond complex here. This place can be the most unique for tourists. Every year a fair is organized here from 14 January to 5 February.

Introduction to Suraj Kund

Suraj Kund is a hot water and normal water pond. It consists of 5 ponds. Out of those 5 ponds, 2 ponds have hot water. This water remains hot throughout the year. If we talk about its temperature, it is said to be around 88.5 degrees Celsius.

There is a belief about the pond here, that whenever Amavasya occurs, the water of this hot pond becomes normal. Its temperature decreases. The water becomes hot again only after the Amavasya ends. Many temples have been built near this pond.

It is said that all the temples built here, all the temples have been built after the wish was fulfilled at the pond. As all the ponds are Surya Kund, Laxman Kund, Brahma Kund, Ram Kund and Sita Kund. In front of that pond, right above the pond, the idol of the God related to that pond has been installed.

Which people can understand as soon as they come here and see it. The water of all these kunds flows and collects in a huge kund. Where steam is always seen. A grand fair is organized in Suraj Kund. In this fair, devotees from far and wide come here for darshan.

History of Suraj Kund

The priests here tell about the history of Suraj Kund that this Suraj Kund is from Treta Yuga. There is also a story about it. It is said that when Lord Rama was exiled for 14 years. When Shri Ram, Laxman and Mother Sita were coming from this path after killing the demon Taraka Sur.

When they came here, they saw a huge forest. A sage used to do Aaha in this forest. The name of that sage was Sarbang Rishi. He was doing penance of God here. While doing penance, the body of that sage was completely destroyed.

Even his body and bones were infested with worms. So Shri Ram came here and spent some time. At this time Mother Sita felt thirsty, so Mother said that there is no water anywhere here. The sage is suffering without water in this season.

They have come in the month of Jeth-Baisaak. On hearing this Lakshman Ji shot his arrow and produced cold water and all of them drank the water of this pond. After drinking water all of them moved forward but at that time mother Sita stopped at the same place and said, no Maharaj, please turn back.

We are travelling in Kshetra Yug. In Kaliyug the animals and birds will make the water impure. On hearing this Lord Ram got angry and shot his arrow which produced hot water. This is the reason that the water in the pond here always comes out to be hot.

Even after investigating the water of this Suraj Kund by many scientists they could not understand its mystery that despite there being ponds so close to each other the water is hot in some and cold in some.

Mystery of water

No one has been able to understand the mystery of the water of Suraj Kund till now. What is the reason that the water here is cold at some places and hot at others? It is said that people who take bath in Suraj Kund are cured of 36 types of diseases.

The water of two Kunds here remains hot throughout the year. The water of the rest of the Kunds remains at normal temperature. After going here, you will see that boiling and steam is visible from the water. The water of all the Kunds here collects in a huge Kund.

Bathing in which can be very risky. There is also a belief about the hot Kund here that rice gets cooked in this Kund in 5 minutes. Its temperature remains around 88 degrees Celsius. During Amavasya, the water of the hot Kund here becomes cold. This happens only for one night.

Then after the night passes, the water becomes hot again. It is said that those who do not have children after marriage, should worship with Amla fruit in this pond to fulfill their wishes. It is said that if Amla starts floating in hot water, then eating it can lead to the birth of a child.

There are many tourist attractions here. Many temples of gods and goddesses have been built in the premises of this pond. All the temples have a story. It is said that devotees who pray here, do some charity on their wish being fulfilled.

Some people build temples according to their wish. Many temples here have been built by devotees coming from different places. These devotees are also from outside Jharkhand. There is no roof of any kind in this Surjas Kund temple.

It is said that there is no roof in the main temple of Surjas Kund here. Local people and priests say that the roof has been built many times in this temple, but the roof falls on its own. It is not understood why the roof breaks despite being so strong.

The priests believe that God likes the open sky. That is why the roof breaks and falls. Apart from this, there are many other temples whose roofs never break. Despite getting old with time, the roof is firmly standing. There are 5 Suraj Kunds here to see and a huge Suraj Kund.

Bathing is done in this huge Suraj Kund. The water in this also remains warm. There is no change in the water of the Kunds even when the climate changes according to the season.

It means that the water of the Kund is always warm. Apart from this, when there is a solar eclipse, the water of the Kund becomes cold. It remains cold for as long as the solar eclipse lasts.

Structure and Development

Many temples have been built in Suraj Kund after the wishes of different people were fulfilled. It is said that it was built in Treta Yuga. There is a mythological story about it. Which is mentioned above. This story is related to Ramayana.

The question arises, how is such a hot spring formed?

When water comes in contact with lava and magma inside the earth, that water becomes hot. And when this water comes out, it comes out in the form of a hot water pond.

Hot water ponds are found in the region of Himalayas as well as in Chhotanagpur. Chhotanagpur is made up of very ancient rocks. But hot water ponds are found in both the regions. They are formed by underground processes only.

According to Dr. Nitish Priyadarshi, it is formed by cracks. The water below starts coming upwards through the cracks. It comes in contact with the spring and starts coming up. Due to which many ponds are seen here. It is found much below our contact.

It comes from much deeper than what we do through boring etc. It comes from such a depth that it brings with it many chemicals. The material that comes with it is iron, silica, total disulfide shell, fluorine, fluoride etc.

She believes that the water is not getting heated by the sun. This water is getting heated from the earth’s crust. This water is getting heated by the heat of the earth.

There may be many logical factors due to solar eclipse, but because the sun passes over our earth. It is possible that there may be some factor, but no research has been done on it till now. That the water of Surya Kund may get heated due to the solar eclipse of the outside temperature.

There is no scientific confirmation of this till now. If the villagers believe, then it should be scientifically confirmed once. Let us go to the next solar eclipse and investigate it. Whether the water is getting cooled due to solar eclipse or not.
